Live with Pointebrush: Dena Abergel

Since Covid started I've been dancing in my basement to stay in shape and to keep my morale up but like for so many people, it can be hard to maintain focus and stay inspired when we are apart from our communities of friends, family, teachers and colleagues. This why I recently decided to start a series where I invite fellow dancers and artists along with me on Instagram Live for us to chat, dance, commiserate, make each other laugh and inspire each other.
.
My first guest was Dena Bergel who is an illustrious faculty member at the School of American Ballet. Also known for her career at the New York City Ballet and featured spot in the Disney series, En Pointe, I was so excited to have Dena on my channel as she taught us some elegant port de bras inspired by George Balanchine.
.
The biggest takeaway from the entire workshop was how fluid and loose the upper body and arms are in Balanchine technique as opposed to the more rigid classical style. I had a blast stepping into this lovely style and trying it out for myself. I hope you do too!
